Got up before sunrise this morning to take advantage of the cooler and more still air over Manila.... here's sharing a moonshot. :)

Absolutely spectacular image Romy. The detail is telescope quality, a very nice telescope. Wow, the large image was like a fly over.

I checked out your site, you are one talented guy. I also spend many hours in pursuit of birds of many species here.

Congrats on a job very well done. Please post more when you get 'em.

Unique settings for moon shooting but the results speak for themselves...

Simply Awesome!

Thanks folks for the comments. :D

Here's a closer look at Crater Copernicus (processed 100% crop from the posted shot):

QUOTED IMAGE

This view makes me wonder just how much resolving power would be needed to see the discarded decent module from a LEM?

And, have any such images ever been generated?

I'd imagine the limiting factor would be the earth's atmosphere, not optics, for land based shots. Perhaps, the Hubble being above it all can resolve the LEM?

BTW, I always had a hard time getting all the lunar features sharp in the frame..... this is one of the rare times I was able to get not so soft edge craters.

Another processed 100% crop from the posted shot:

Interesting. I wonder if NASA has ever aimed Hubble at the Moon?

Holy mackerel, those shots are incredible. Such amazing sharpness and clarity.

As for seeing manmade clutter on the surface, I think you need unimaginable power for that...I'm not even sure Hubble would be powerful enough, would it?

Good question... consider crater Copernicus is 93km in diameter and the hubble telescope has a focal length of 57,600mm.

At 1600mm the crater is about 20mm on an image.... so at 57,600mm it would be...?

Of course it would also depend on the resolving power of the telescope... even without the atmoshpere in the way you'd still need a mighty perfect set of mirrors in the thing (something they stuffed up when it was first sent into orbit)

Some excellent shots, shows the 40D is no slouch and an able camera.

Well, I've got the 40D, just need to invest in a Sigmonster (though this is the first time I've heard of it, so I don't actually know what it is!!)

Stunning shots.
