I tried that, I think it looked a bit odd, maybe cause he was laying down when I took the picture?

The image is overexposed. If you shot in RAW, much of the lost highlight detail can be recovered.
The contrast is much too high. Look at the histogram and you will see that there is almost no portion of the image with mid-tones - only deep shadows and washed out whites. This can be caused by harsh light, such as a naked bulb or direct sunlight or flash. For such a shot you want diffuse light.
I have a sneaking suspicion that this was shot with flash, close up.
I couldn't do much with it using Shadows/Highlights, because it wants to become posterized.
