On a recent trip, I downloaded my images shot that day to a laptop so I could look at them in DPP. Looked at them all and edited a few; kept them in raw in folders. When I got home I used a flash to move them to the desktop for editing. When I opened them in DPP (on the desktop) I couldn't edit them - the file was read only. I could still edit them on the laptop. I'm trying to figure out what converted the files to read only so I don't make that mistake again.

I don't know why this happens, somehow the file thinks that your first computer in this process still has control of this file. I have had this happen before but never with an image file.

You could try this to remove the read only attribute on your desktop. I'm using XP Pro so it might vary under VISTA. Open a command session (DOS for us oldies) and navigate to the folder where the offending file resides. At the DOS prompt enter the following

attrib -r filename.ext

This will remove the read only attribute of this one file name. If you have many files that this happened to

attrib -r *.* or if it is all one file ext change *.* to *.ext where ext is the file extension that you want to change.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Another of those aggravating mysteries in Windows XP? I've never found a reason for it nor a satisfactory cure. I would think the Mac/PC ads would be all over something like this. I know it drives me crazy too.

From this post on I have no idea what you guys are talking about - of course, I'm easily confused.
