Thanks for the heads up... at first I thought maybe you'd been in a coma for the past few months (until I saw the 2 in your thread title.:) )

Thanks. The only difference I can see is that the beta2 profiles now push images into blowout when they were not blownout sing the beta 1 profiles. A very slight boost at close to 255. This on the 40D.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Lots of good stuff tonight. Finally get the final LR 2.1 (with final ACR 4.6) so I can finally use LR for my 50D pics now. And now the new camera profiles to go with it...

Well, I kind of like them (the profiles)... Not a great picture, but here's a comparison shot...

First with the default ACR 4.6 profile (built-in one that's the only one available if you don't install the camera profiles)

Second is with the "Camera Standard" profile.

After comparing them, the basic/default one does look rather "bleh". Notice the different orange gradiations (is that the right word) on the big pumpkin up front on the "Camera Standard" one. Whereas on the basic/default one it's all pretty much one shade of orange...
Probably could do the same thing with boosting contrast quite a bit, but I don't know, I think it adds more "pop", which is what everyone usually asks for...

What do you guys think?

And here's the same with the Camera Neutral profile, which is the profile I use a lot if I'm using DPP. Kind of a good in between. Not as "over-done" as the Camera Standard, but still a little more gradiation in the oranges than just the default...

I prefer the first one and even the third neutral image over the second one. The colors in the second one do not look very close to the colors of a real pumpkin. Other than the off-color that the standard style gives the pumpkins, I think that the results are fairly good. I think that I still prefer my workflow in which I customize tone curves to fit the image and frequently use layers to do localized enhancements. I know it is slow compared to plugging in a style, but being retired, time is an abundant commodity for me.

Yep - I prefer the neutral one as well... Like I mentioned above, the middle one (camera standard) is a bit over-done... I usually lean toward the more realistic looking colors with a bit of enhancement...

And unfortunately I'm not retired so I don't have as much time as you... So I like the profile basically to give me a few ideas of where to start, and then tweak (mostly in LR - i don't go into full photoshop much anymore)...

BTW - great stuff on your site Bill... That Alaska trip looks amazing... I see you love sunsets/sunrises/skys as much as I do... :-)

Is there a way to filter out all pics that have the beta1 profiles applied?

I REALLY love the beta 1 profiles. I hope these do not change things too much as bohdank suggests. I think the adobe beta profile was nearly perfect for the 1D3.

I just downloaded all the latest updates and I see what bohdank's talking about. At first I didn't and made a post about that. However, upon testing a wedding photograph, I compared identical settings on the image and noted that Neutral 2 blew out the dress slightly whereas Neutral 1 did not. As far as I can tell, there were no other changes made to the image, so I'll be sticking with Neutral 1 for now. Fortunately, when you install the version 2 profiles, the version 1 are still intact and selectable rather than overwritten.

Can someone link me to a copy of the beta 1 profiles for Mac? I have a few thousand photos calibrated to those profiles but now I can't re-download the beta 1 for my new system.

Hoff, I installed the new adobe beta 2 profile, and I find the Adobe Standard Beta 2 profolie is more or less identical to the Beta 1. So, I deleted the Beta 1's and the Beta 2's automatically take over.

IF you use the other Camera Profiles, they may be different (I don't though).

I have looked at a lot of images and compared the beta 1 and beta 2 profiles and, in most cases, I can't even detect any difference. My camera is the XTi and other cameras might show different results.

+1 with 1D3 (when I look at the histogram, there is some very minor change, but not much at all, and nothing noticeable in the image).
