Canon 350D
EF-S 10-22 @ 10mm
ISO 1600
45s exposure
f/3.5

In Camera Raw I cooled the temp to 3900k and used Luma noise reduction by about 25%. I also used the saturation channels to pull down the reds/magentas/purples a bit. I don't typically shoot above ISO 800, so the noise bothered me.

The same location earlier that day. You can see where my tripod was already lined up.

That is impressive. I like the composition, and the reflection in the water really made it outstanding.

Just simply a pefect shot, I wish I could do as well. Just getting started myself, and with images like this it gives me courage to try harder. Thanks for sharing.

Great shot!!

Quick question:

so only 45 seconds of exposure was required to capture so many stars and esp the milky way??

Did you use a tracking device, 45s is a long exposure to not see trails in the stars from the earth movement. Great shot

Thanks, guys!

No tracking at all. This was part of a timelapse shoot (link on the Flickr page), so a little bit of blur actually works in my favor, making the timelapse appear to move smoothly.

Amazing photo, perfect setting and I'll be the skies are seriously dark out there. I checked out your time lapse, incredible!

What I wouldn't give to spend a few clear nights at that location with my scopes, wow.

Any wildlife come to visit while you're out shooting?

Aside from deer, no wildlife to speak of. I thought I might see some black bears up there, but never did. It was fairly late in the season. I did see a coyote on my way back to Mono Village, which is the first I have ever seen up there.

Next summer I am going to hit this same spot again, but plan to stay for two nights. I might bring along a little whiskey or something. ;) That place is so incredibly peaceful and beautiful.
