I ordered something online from ebay and it was shipped out from Hong Kong. The USPS tracking page has only had the following details since last Friday:

Foreign International Dispatch, (Friday) October 17, 2008, HONG KONG AIR MAIL CENTRE, HONG KONG

I was wondering what this status meant and how much longer it will be until it shows arrival in the US?

I've ordered stuff before that was shipped via EMS and within about 24hrs of it leaving HK, it showed arrival in the US (Chicago I think).

It's been 6+ days with the current package & nothing has been updated!

Well, if it was shipped by the cheapest method (surface, ship), it could take up to three months (13 weeks), depending upon the route taken.

I order some cheapy things from dealextreme.com, and it take about 2 weeks or so. We have family in Japan and they ship us some stuff on occasion and it takes about a week.

I order stuff from HK from time to time and it often takes a couple of weeks to reach me in the UK. I wouldn't worry if it's only been 6 days. Ask this again in a week!

Still no change...
I would think it would at least show activity in the US 8 days later. Also, being at the "Air Mail Centre", I assume it's NOT on the slow boat!

I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. The tracking number they give you will only be relevant up to their border, so you'll know when it has left Hong Kong.

For the UK it's usually at least a week for things to arrive. My experience of USPS for outgoing parcels is not good, so maybe allow a bit longer! ;-)a

I sell a lot of stuff on ebay and a lot goes to the States, I have found that delivery times can be very variable.

Most packages get there, from the UK, in under 10 days and typically about a week. However I find many take up to three weeks to arrive and some even longer (the record being seven weeks).

I suspect that the delays are when US customs are busy and a backlog builds up waiting for clearance.

Your parcel is almost certainly on it's way, but currently sat in a shed somewhere waiting to be cleared. It's a bit early to be worrying and you just need to be patient (not easy I know, when a new toy is on it's way!)
