Anybody know a good solution besides airing it out?

Stop smoking! Better for you too! ;)

How about trying to clean it with alcohol or a specialist cleaning product and a soft cloth.

I smoke and I shoot but I never do both at the same time. That's just nasty. Vinegar might remove it. You'll probably have to clean a few times to get all the surfaces that hold the odour.

Be careful you don't use anything too strong that could fade the plastic. I'm an auto detailer, and smoke is a pain- in cars it never really goes away (get embedded in the fabrics). You can try vineger or just water on a damp microfiber cloth (they clean the best and woun't scratch.) With bad cigarette smoke in cars you can see BROWN go on the rag (or paper towel if doing windows). So if you see brown dirt coming off (that's gotta be a hell of a smokey camera!) you know you are getting it off.

It will eventually go away on it's own.

You can try using baby wipes... I had a fire about a year and a half ago and the smell of smoke was all over the camera - and that's alot stronger than cigarette smoke. A couple of minutes with some baby wipes should do the trick.

I used electronic wipes to clean my 20D after our local brush fire last year. It got most of the smell off and the rest just went away later.

Wipe the entire exterior of the camera down with some sort of electronics safe cleaner...i generally use some pre moistened lens cloths. Let it dry, take the lens off and put it in a large sealable bag with some activated carbon(activated charcoal). Let it sit in there for about 24 hours and your camera should be odor free. One of my old cameras was in a house fire(different room but the smoke still got to it) and it was unbearable...i used the above method and it worked like a charm.

I'd go with an electronic cleaning fluid such as propanol.

I would be very careful about using vinegar - if it comes to that use a very lightly dampened cloth - as if any of it seeps into the camera you can say bye bye to the electronics.

Febreeze? I have no idea what it would do to the plastic but for cloth it works great.

Thanks everybody! It has a cigarette smell. The camera(30D) functions great, but the smell is aweful and no I don't smoke. Thanks for the suggestions so far i've been using fabric softner wrapped around the camera in as plastic bag. I might use the activated charcoal method too if the Fabric softner does not work. Jeffro250 thanks for the suggestion. I don't want to use any liquids.

As an ex smoker who still suffers this with everything he owns, you have my sympathy. lol

If the source doesn't go away, the smell never will. I grew up keeping my door closed and still went to school smelling like a pack a day guy. Charcoal and baking soda will work if it's from casual exposure. You'll have to clean it if it's long term as nicotine builds up a yellow corrosive film on everything. I say this because you never said if it was from short term or long term exposure.

Wash cloth material in baking soda and plastic with a mild soap/water/vinegar solution. Things you can't clean like foam inside a hardcase you'll need to replace. I generally wipe my camera down with lens solution to take care of anything before it begins to build any major patina.

If you can't get away from the source, a good large capacity HEPA air purification unit works wonders run 24/7 in a closed off room. I keep one going in the electronic room where I keep all my equipment. It's not going to fix the smell once it gets on it, but it's a huge help in a multi tier system when you can't eliminate the source of the smoke short of divorce.

Yes, I have severe Equipment Deficiency. No, the pills don't fix it.
