Nothing...no barriers...you can walk off the edge. It's all about who has the biggest balls to creep up to the edge. You have to get very close to it to get the full Colorado River in the shot, otherwise it just gets cut off with the ground below you. That and a 1200 ft drop if you do fall.

It's not balls, it's a deep burning desire to make the best possible photo that you'll do anything short of getting killed to get the shot. I feel you, I've been there, haha.

What a view!

Thanks

Like the first one better. More realistic color. I crawled to the edge with the wind blowing 35mph(no guts). Works great with 10mm. Printed it 16x20 for a show next weekend. Print big the detail is great!!!

I'll be sure to print at least one large and see how it comes out

great shot.... 1st one is better though.

I think so too, the colour stands out more

And you live to tell the tale ;) - I hear you though!

don't mind at all. I didn't have a shorter lens, so this is the best I could do. I was stuck with clear skies and the sun coming into the lens. Made it hard to get a "clean" shot - as you can tell with the blue fringe.

Yea, it only works when you live to publish your work, or at the very least, have someone there to pick up the CF card and publish you after death!

BUGGER THAT!

Forget the picture, I give you 10 points for having the balls to step to the ledge haha.

sometimes we have to take what we can, rather have something than nothing.

Oh, absolutely. Not disagreeing with you there. At least I now know a few more things that I can do now to improve on my shot taking techniques.

Wonderful shot! I can't wait to move to AZ and visit this place!
Has anyone ever fallen over that ledge?

I'm sure. People have died all throughout the parks system. Check the North American Mountaineering Accident Reports or something similar for hiking. You'd be amazed at how stupid some people are (or were I should say).

Well, this is as close as I decided to get to the edge:
