still new to the DSLR world...but i have questions...
i see some post where people say they have to calibrate their lens...how do you know when your lens needs calibration? another question is, how do you know you have a bad copy of a lens? Thank you in advance

check the focus and see. IT depends on if you camera can do minor ajustments too but i wouldnt worry too much about it. ONly if the foucs isnt right

Yeah if you have a lens that needs calobrated then you have to send it back to canon fro them to calobrate it.

I think he meant if your lens needs calibration, you need to send it in to Canon...I think.

How can you tell if your lens needs it?

If after taking user error out of the equation you feel that your lens is soft then it might merit a trip to Canon.

There are different ways to find out, including focus charts, etc. But I usually go out and shoot and if I see problems in the results, then I tests against charts to confirm my findings. Then I send it in to Canon.

ok, thanks! imma check my macro lens...sometimes the focus seems off, but i gotta test it again.

Take photos.

If you don't like what you're getting out of your camera, figure out why.

But don't start by looking for problems. I've owned many lenses and bodies, and none of them have needed calibration. I suspect my experience is the same as the majority of other users (with the possible exception of 1DIII owners :p).

I agree with Luke.. Many camera/lens problems are due to user error..

yes i am new, and yes I DO need to get out there...thats why i'm not growing in what i want to do. thank you! i will try to get out more. there's an event next saturday...i'll post some. just not good w/ pp
