Nothing on their web site. Was this a walk in deal only?

You had to get one of the booklets they were handing out at the show. They each seemed to have a code in it... When I checked out at the store, the clerk took my book.

... I think your missing the point, B&H knows that everyone was scamming them so instead of having generic codes, or even specific codes for a piece of gear they are doing something on-site and in person. I don't think you can buy the stuff online or after the show, you have to pony up at PhotoExpo.

I was going to go to the show this weekend, but ended up booking business and wanted the cash. I'm going to WPPI in Feb in Vegas and expect some similar discounts there, but honestly at that point I won't be in the market for much. I already own what I need/want for the most part...

if there's a code then it must be good for use online, right? Until someone can confirm that the additional discount was available online only then I'm sure that it would be good online as well.

How is this scamming or hurting B&H in any way other than lower profits for each of the coupon sales?
This is crazy.

This is crazy.

It is scamming in the sense that the discount code was specifically for those who attended (in this case) PDN/PhotoPlus, and that people who had not attended the event in years past were trying to redeem the discount codes. It's not an illegal scam, but it's a scam to them and their system (they are in business to make money and it's up to them do decide how to discount stuff, you don't like it order somewhere else).

The discount codes were nice, but honestly folks that is all over now from what I've read and been told by B&H folks. They expect to sell X number of whatever it is at the discount, and when published online they end up having tons more demand for it than they anticipated. They aren't loosing money, but they don't keep the doors open for selling stuff at what is almost no markup. So why extend the discount codes to everyone online, when they would otherwise sell almost as many at a higher profit margin...

So big deal... it's not the end of the world. Besides go attend a real show and you can get your own discount in your hot little hand. Me would I like a bit of a deal sure, but honestly it's not going to decide if I buy something or not.... For me I buy something because I need it, and the gear makes me money so it's more of an investment in a business than it is some piece of gear to put in a glass case to show off to fellow camera nerds.

Also FWIW: I have ordered a metric ton of crap in the past from B&H, but am increasingly moving away from using B&H. I can either get it as cheap or cheaper usually on Amazon (also with free shipping most of the time), or other retailers that have similar prices and price match B&H. I'm a 1 day ship zone from Roberts Imaging in Indianapolis, they match B&H, tend to have just as much or more in stock and also have more standard hours.

With Amazon Gold Box deals and Live Search cash back, I'm not even sure why people bother with B&H anymore.

Their shipping is usually quiet excessive and they give a mere 2% discount on Live Search when other retailers are doing 5-7% back (and these are also authorized Canon dealers).

Their show codes made their prices just a hair more competitive than others once you factored in B&H shipping when the other places shipped for free. Just my $0.02. I'll guarantee you B&H wasn't loosing money on those show codes. It gave them a chance to move a hell of a lot of product and make a pretty penny while doing it. It's pure greed on their part as to why they don't offer them anymore. bw! (sorry, I just had to try out this new smilie)!

I don't get this code thing. If you don't want the codes posted don't use codes make it where you have to buy there. I would think in this day and age you would be happy to make a sale.

I was there. Have the catalog that was handed out. Prices/codes are at show or phone orders until November 9.

Nothing wise or clever to enlighten you with!
