Doesn't matter, I'm free any time in the afternoon/evening on Fridays. :D I'm literally right next to Spadina station too, so no trekking around in the cold needed. I am busy 9am-noon but after that any time is OK. Depends when other people are free.

Cool, that's good, it'll be nice and dark so there won't be any ambient window light. Let's see if everyone else is free on Friday, and if so, we can chalk that into the calendar.

Mornin' Torontonians. I see sunshine - it may be a good weekend yet. Beer certainly didn't help my jetlag, slept like a baby last night (I mean, who the heck wakes up at 7 on a saturday? :()

just came back from HK?

OK excellent, that's everyone accounted for - shall we say Friday, aim for around 6, but if you can come earlier you can do that too? PM me or message me on facebook and I'll give you my number and directions.

Simona, quick question to you. I used to own the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 and the
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8. I found the 85 was way faster focusing, was charper wide open and also the Ring USM was quieter than the 50mm. A lot of people seems to like the 50 a lot, but to be honest the only reason I haven't sold it is because I need a fast lens in my bag for the low light/no flash situations. What are your feelings regarding these 2 glasses?

I sold my 85 f1.8 a year ago just because on a 50D is too long; it must be a thing of beauty in the 5D MkII.

I actually really like my 50mm. I've had it for over a year now and have shot a few shows with it. The focusing has never been an issue for me and while it's not sharpest lens wide open I was consistently happy with the results.

I only picked up the 85mm about a week ago so I've had very limited experience with it. Today was actually the first time I used it. Unfortunately I used it in ideal conditions and I wasn't shooting wide open so I can't really compare the two just yet... But like you said... it's a gorgeous lens on the 5D MkII.

Rafael - I didn't realize that you and the guy on MM were the same person! I also had the 50 1.4 and 85 1.8, and I really liked both of them. I'll put you down as number 4 and leave it at that if Simona, Frank, and Julian are coming as the first 3.

I guess we can compare my 50 f1.4 to yours and Simona's, there might be something wrong with my lens. Thanks for putting me as number 4! As for Friday I am out of the office at 6PM but I have to drive all they way from North Brampton so it's about 45 mins drive (if there is no traffic) to downtown, so I can be there around 7PM. I always wanted to shoot pin-up style; I totally love the one you have on MM with the sailor outfit. I guess pin-up involves a lot of work before (makeup and wardrobe), during (getting the proper poses) and after the shot (post processing to give it the pin-up look).

By the way I only have two radio triggers, but if anybody has a flash with an optical slave, feel free to bring that because more lights are rarely a bad thing.

I can bring my 2 D-Lite4s and we can trigger them using their optical slaves.

Nowadays I shoot Nikon, but deep inside I am still a Canon lover... plus Nikonians don't have a cool place to hang like POTN :)

Sure I can bring 2 softboxes,2 umbrellas and stands for the DLites. The softboxes are the ones that came on the kit though, so on the small side (44x44cms and 60x60cms). Once you start shooting full body you have to feather them from above the subject (I really need to sell some stuff on Ebay to get an Octa 135cms).

OK - I have a small softbox and small umbrella for my flashes too, so you don't need to bring too much if it's a hassle. Once I settle down and figure out where I'm gonna be for the next 5 years, I'm gonna get a set of alienbees, but for now, portability is a must for me so I'm stuck using the little stuff, but get it close enough to the model and they do a fantastic job.

Photoflex is having a massive sale right now btw, their huge 3 foot octadome is 60% off, selling for US$245 this week, unlike the regular $600. Lots of other stuff on sale too.
