OK - I have a small softbox and small umbrella for my flashes too, so you don't need to bring too much if it's a hassle. Once I settle down and figure out where I'm gonna be for the next 5 years, I'm gonna get a set of alienbees, but for now, portability is a must for me so I'm stuck using the little stuff, but get it close enough to the model and they do a fantastic job.

Photoflex is having a massive sale right now btw, their huge 3 foot octadome is 60% off, selling for US$245 this week, unlike the regular $600. Lots of other stuff on sale too.

Yup, I saw that sale but even with 60% off the Elinchrom Octa 135 is cheaper here in Vistek (with the current currency exchange a lot of gear is cheaper to get locally). The 5D MkII was cheaper here than anywhere in the US, same the 50D.

No worries I am just bringing my camera backpack, the flash heads and the light stands, I'll leave the tripod at home (I rarely use it for this type of shoots, since I like to be changing angles and positions every 15 seconds)

Nowadays I shoot Nikon, but deep inside I am still a Canon lover... plus Nikonians don't have a cool place to hang like POTN :)

Hahaha sure, but don't take it too seriously - this is more of just a bunch of POTNers hanging out, relaxing, and a chance for folks to play around and experiment than a real shoot of any sorts - I know I'll be treating it that way.

Hopefully there's enough space for you to move around in my living room , though it is a dedicated corner of the room that my roommate has kindly let me turn into a makeshift studio.

Should be fun though - Julian, got any pics of the model so we know what to expect?

I know y'all have probably seen these before, but for the record, but these are my two favourite shots that I've made in the comfort of my living room to date:

Oh hey by the way, anyone know how to get to Vistek via public transportation? I've always avoided going because I don't have a car (student and all that, y'know  ) but they have some pretty good stuff.

Those pics are great, Perry. If we can come up with something even half as good on Friday, I'll be thrilled!

No idea how to get to Vistek without a car unfortunately.

vistek is easy - right on the queen streetcar line. take it east to... eastern, I think one or two stops before the bridge across the DVP - it's right at the intersection with the streetcar stop.

see you guys on friday night - perry, will you be PM-ing us directions?

edit: Sumach - Queen E and Sumach is where you want to go.

Are there any pieces of clothing I suggest she bring? Or any pin up pictures that are really good examples of the style? I figure I'll send her some examples Ive found, but if any of you have good examples send me the links

Here 's a picture from a few months ago:

To be honest I'm tired of the pinup look - I do it all the time and I might be doing it again on my saturday shoot.

It's better if she brings what she thinks she looks best in, that reflects her own personal style. That way she'll feel the most comfortable and we'll get the best shots if she's in her element. That's not to say she shouldn't bring any super awesome outfits - as long as she is comfortable wearing them in front of the camera, that's the most important thing.

The wild pinup looks are really hard to pull off, and we should probably leave them to more experienced models. For new and inexperienced models, it's most important that she can be herself and that the photographer helps with that - if she feels great, it'll show in the photos.

A few guidelines though:
- Make sure the clothing fits well.
- Match every part of the look - outfit, hair, it all has to go together, so whoever's doing her hair and makeup, make it match the outfit.
- Simplicity is better than overly complex
- For the makeup, focus on the eyes

Oh and nice shot - I like that outfit.

Those two pics you put up are great Perry! Funny thing I was commenting to my wife a few minutes ago I was going to a POTN get together/shoot this Friday and that we might do a pinup shoot and she said it would be awesome; she knows I spend a lot of time in this place :)... any need for an extra model? (she is a good guinea pig model that helps me with all my lighting experiments..she is the one with the army outfit in my MM profile).

Thanks :D.

Sadly I don't think my apartment is big enough - 5 photographers + 1 model is probably the most I can do, folks need space to sit  and I have to be somewhere later that night some time after 9. Perhaps some other time?

Don't take it too seriously Perry, I was joking around... we cannot even get a sitter on Fridays so it was a no go from start :)

PS: I just started to work on some post processing of last Saturday shoot, finished the first one and posted it to MM (it's my profile pic right now..let me know what you think :))
