i see where you were focusing ...no worries :):) @ 1.2 it as a very narrow DOF....

 I'm an idiot. Disclaimer: I've been taking Nyquil all day because that's the only medicine I have in the house. Side effect is apparently that I take everything literally.

So I had a few minutes today to play with the 85 1.2 in natural light. I'm in love with this lens. I still have to get used to it, but here's a quick shot I took handheld:

Lovely shot :). That lens must be a screamer on the 5DII, but a word of warning, it'll make all your other glass look like garbage . The bokeh is so nice, at all apertures, it's very sharp wide open, but at f/1.8 it'll cut ya! Torontonians clearly have good taste, we've got a lot of 85Ls here - best portrait lens ever made IMO (yes, EVEN compared to the Leica R 90 APO and Nikon 105 AI PC)

Since I can't post in G&N I'll post another from the other day.....not sure if I cooked the PP too much on this one.....This from 1 580 on the right with a light stick bounced right at 1/4pwr

Nice shot, Brian. I like the processing on it... beautiful colours and the reflection is a nice touch.

Brian that's a gorgeous shot - I'd love to see the same thing but with a horizontal framing. You guys have made me wanna be a narrow DOF whore again. I'm gonna shoot with the 85L on Sunday in studio with my lights on minimum power at f/1.2 .

No it doesn't, but it's too small - can you post a 100% crop of the focus point? Hard to tell at this size.

This should do it Perry....It was most likely at the bridge of the nose and I was about 2-3 ft away....

Nice shot Simona altough in dogs the focus point is generally the nose and not the eyes like in humans (don;t ask me why, I work at a doggie place and that's what the Editor in Chief who is a pro dog shooter told me), which means f-stop should be kept to a minimum of f4 to get the eyes in focus , or well depend on your focal setting could be less or more..

Nowadays I shoot Nikon, but deep inside I am still a Canon lover... plus Nikonians don't have a cool place to hang like POTN :)

And you think that's soft for an unprocessed wide open shot? :p Look at that corner of her eyebrow on the left, very nice and sharp. I bet it looks even better on your monitor since you don't have to compress it down to 150k.

Not me personally Perry, but they ripped me to shreds at Fred Miranda for it being too soft....:cry:

Little do they know this is the same model that Frank Doorhof shot...but did they rip him to shreds... I think not......

The smoothing of the skin makes it look softer I think.

DOORHOF shot her? Is she Toronto based?

True, I probably should have left it. But it is one thing to have skin soft then another to have a shot soft...
Yes, I believe she is TO based now....
