The good people at Theatre Guild, Glasgow, were kind enough to invite me back after I had shot The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas for them last year (it got 263 views but no comments!). This year, it was Barry Manilow's musical Copacabana. It's really just a vehicle for glamour, showgirl costumes, nostalgia and good fun, but it has some really catchy music and is great fun. Theatre Guild did a great job of it!

1. Just Arrived. I burned out the lead a bit. Bah!

2. Dancing Fool. Pink lights on the chorus and a green gel on the spotlight made this one tough to get the PP right. Not sure I succeeded...

3. Sweet Heaven, I'm In Love Again

4. Audition scenes. And yes, I did have to move quite a way to get this shot - it wasn't an angle that the audience would have seen, but it was irresistible!

6. Steppin' Out

7. Ay Caramba

Great fun all round!

Nice series. I'll comment a bit more detailed later. One thing that strikes me: The placement of the piano player (?) in #4 is a bit unfortunate. Although from your comment, I think it was on purpose ;)

Not bad, just needs a faster shutter for a few of them. I like the framing of 4 a lot, but it feels a little cramped in portrait. Landscape like 7 gives more the "on stage" feel.

Agree, a few look a bit soft due to motion.
Apart from that it's a nice series.

In #1 the lead isn't too badly exposed. Should be an easy recovery in Raw.

I like #1, 3 and 7.
The closer shots are cropped somewhat awkward... But always hard to miss cropping of limbs in a case like this.

Thanks for the detailed critique; it helps me to be aware of what I'm doing wrongly. I'll go back to the RAW for #1 and see if I can make the lead a little darker without darkening the rest of the frame.

Agreed on the motion blur; #5 was 1/100s which is normally okay. She must have been moving her hand fairly quickly. Maybe I need that f/2.8 after all!

The cropping thing is tricky - I normally try to bear it in mind but maybe I need to focus on it more.

Thanks again,

regards,
/alan
