Did anyone else notice this? The closest focusing distance is 3 inches/77mm!! I find that pretty amazing. Compared to the 35L with its MFD @ 1 foot, that's a pretty massive difference which would open doors for some VERY creative and interesting shots. NOW I get the huge price difference b/n 24L I & II ...

Did you get those specs off of the Canon site? There's been speculation that it might be an error. On DP Review, they say that the MFD is 9.9in, which is about what the current one does.

I'm hoping I'll see it at the PDN Expo tomorrow, I'll have to remember to look at the focusing scale while I'm there.

Wow, it's been sitting on their site like that for so long and nobody called it. It is such a shocking piece of information. It is hard to believe though, now that I think about it. But if it is true, it is pretty revolutionary.

It's definitely not 3 inches... as far as I can tell it's like 5 inches from the front element, but I don't know from where the MFD is measured.

MFD is measured from the sensor. which makes the value 77mm non-sensical as that would mean it focus into the lens itself. :)

It's true...you can take a photo of the dust on the rear element.
