CF speed requirement in 40D

Does anyone know the speed at which the 40D writes information to CF cards?

I'm looking at new 4Gb CF cards and wondering how much speed capability I need for my 40D.

I don't want to buy a 233X card if my camera's max write speed is 150X.

I shoot sports, often using burst mode. Sometimes I shoot RAW, other times large JPEG mode.

Thanks for the link. Why do you suppose Ridata 2Gb and 8Gb cards (both 150X) differed so much in performance?

Does total card capacity reduce transfer speed?

As far as I can ascertain all cards of the same type down load faster the smaller they are. I am not sure there is any noticeable difference in writing speeds.

I love this site, but have always wanted to know why the download speed for RAW is greater than that for JPEG? I just don't know enough about how the cards work.

Go for Sandisk ULTRAIV. The 40D wont use the speed but the 50D loves it... and the 60D will need it

....did you mean to say Extreme 4 ?? If I read the sandisk specs correctly, the extreme is faster than the ultra. I use both ultra and extreme in my 20D and 50D. I've never really compared the speeds of them in my own cameras or computers.

I'm not an expert by any means, but maybe it's because the camera has to compress image data to make .jpg files, which takes time. Whereas RAW files just get saved as they are.
