hello..

just need help

have placed an order for 5D II

& definitely need new CF cards

was wondering which one to buy

extreme III & extreme IV
one is 30mb/s, the other is 40/45mb/s ?

is it necessary to buy the extreme IV for 5D II or will it be a waste of money?

i was thinking to buy extreme IV 8gb or extreme III 16gb
or is it bettery to buy 2 lots of extreme III 8gb ?

help pls

i just realized that 5D II raw photos are about 25mb each file
capable of 3.9fps, does that mean its 25mb X 3.9 = 97.5 mb per second is required?

that means buying the fastest available CF card is necessary?

No. The buffer holds the data until it can be written to card, thus camera makers increase the buffer size as needed. IE, a 5D II will have a bigger buffer than the 5D. The speed of the card determines (in part) how quickly that buffer is emptied.

There are no cards that will write 97.5mb per second anyway and realistically, there's not much speed difference between the better cards.

Go here (external link) and look at different cameras' speeds with various cards.

very helpful website

thx cdifoto

based on the 1Ds III (roughly 21mp = 5d2) .. buying extreme III 8gb x 2 pieces is probably the best value

The 5D II has UDMA, so will be able to take advantage of the performance of the Extreme IV cards. If you pln to do much burst shooting, you will want that; if all you do is one or two shots, move on, then another couple of shots almost any card will be fast enough.
