Im using the XT with a sigma 2.8 70/100 for football games. Question is it loses power after it gets colder, Im told Batterys,,well they are all fully charged but they are of the cheaper design......what and where should I be using for this type of climate ,,,,is there anything under the 40.00 cost that will do this for me??

thanx up front

I agree with the above poster. Great prices for better batteries.

Typcally batteries do "lose" their charge in cold weather, I would keep them in a pocket so they can stay a little warm vs keeping them in a camera bag directly in the cold.

Sometimes 3rd party batteries are MUCH better than the official canon ones (which is strange!)

How cold are we talking about here?

My OEM batteries would usually give out when it got below -30C (which sucked 'cuz at times we were at -55C lol)...what I'd do is take it out, warm it up by breathing on it (I know...condensation should be a consideration, but I never had a problem) and stick it back in...take one pic (two if I was lucky) and repeat haha...

I have some cheapo replacement batteries on the way...we'll see how they hold up.

well, no name brand 3rd party batteries isn't necessarily safe. These types of batteries are primarily the reason ipods, cell phones, laptops, etc, explode or caught fire. Do you really want to put a $10 battery on your valuable camera equipment? I'm not saying all of them are bad, but avoid the cheapo on ebay from chinese sellers!

I wouldn't depend on 3rd party batteries also. You never know when they'll discharge on you. Sometimes you could go days on it on a full charge, other times it wouldn't go past a few hours.

batteries always in the innermost pocket, always. Heck even with a warm pack (but away from lenses to avoid condensation).

Your sig says you have a grip. Does it have 2 trays? Put 6 Eneloop AAs in one tray and 2 NB2LHs in the other. They're quick change, so one in the pocket, one in the camera and you always have warm batteries.

Battery FAQ.

Keep the batteries in a pocket inside your jacket, swap them every 20 minutes or so, so they stay warm. Cold batteries don't perform well.

OP, what batteries did you buy off Amazon? I used Sterlingtek batteries on my XTi for a year with no problems and I just ordered a pair for my 40D to use in the grip. They're the only 3rd party batteries I'd trust, and they hold a charge for much longer than the Canon one that came with the camera.

ok well I am always against 3rd party batts, the company I worked for had over 100 nikon D70s and well over 150 batteries. Well the calumet ones would just fail all the time, they would give false readings and or just stop charging. So the owner dropped $1300 on 30 new Nikon batteries.

Now I have used 3rd party batts in my canon for years with no probs, today I just pulled the trigger on the 2 Sterlingtek batteries so we will see.

My moral of the story, if you have the money o canon because they are proven. But if your not a pro and have more then two batteries go with 3rd party and save up for some new glass
