The blacks are almost too black, but I see hair highlights in there, so I think this is almost as perfect as you could make this shot. If you want me to quibble, the cat's profile line is too close to center--a more horizontal shot would give a more pleasing asymmetry to the shot, but that's a minor complaint. I appreciate your comments and I agree about the framing. I had composed a number of different framing options and saw things that I did not like about each of them including this one. I guess it has some loss of hair above it's eye. Seems bright there. And I'd like to see more of it's head and ears to make it look more cat-like. EDIT: BTW I'm from DFW originally, In Japan now. Since you mention the thin hair, it does sort of resemble hair loss, but actually all cats have very thin hair between the eye and ear, but it is especially noticeable on black cats that have underlying light skin. Because they are hunters, the ear-eye connection on cats is very close and the thin hair area acts like an extension of the ear in focusing the sound. Atmospheric haze in images? I'm not a cat-man obviously, but I do enjoy watching them stalk and play. Thanks for the explanation of the thin hair. EOS 5D II, 40D, Sony R1, Olympus 1030, Canon S5-IS.
