Sorry to be real basic here.
I have recently acquired new studio lighting equipment from someone who never used it, with a view to taking indoor portrait shots. Although I have been taking portraits , Urban and motorsport pics (never with lights )for many years I want to diversify but I have some real basic questions.
Am I correct in assuming that with the model or still life ? I would set up the correct lighting with the modelling lights, soft box etc. Then take light meter readings from the subject and these f settings can be tranferred to the strobes where the correct value of light will produce the same view.
Is there something on the forum about this
Any help would be great

Equipment list:
2 x Bowens 500dx lights
umbrella, soft box, all stands and seconic meter, plus other items
My camera 1DS Mk111 and lots of lenses

Kinda. What i'd so is set my main light up, you want to get a large light source as close to the subject as possible. Using the modelling lights are previews add your other lights. You can meter them individually by shielding the meter with your body or your hand. Once you have the ratios right take a single meter reading and transfer that to manual mode on your camera.

btw for all meter readings point the dome of the meter towards the camera.

The studio lighting book at www.lightingmagic.com (external link) covers all this very well. Your local library will probably have books too. This book (external link) will also help. See my book thread for other recommendations.
