Hi, I am new to the SLR world. A week ago I picked up a 50D. I think this photo came out okay. I feel the crop is not good. But I would love to hear what others think of this shot and what needs improvement.

No comments, did I do something wrong in my post?

The framing is good, however the overall quality is lacking - which I feel is just simple low jpg setting.
Also you're on F32 - is that purposeful?
I'd try shooting a wider aperture, say F8 where the lens is likely sharper, give less dust spots and blur other parts of the image out

:)

the crop is rather tight, and the subject is not really grabbing me.:confused:I would have rather seen this in a full frame shot?

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.

I would like to see a little more space in front of the boat. I also think the horizon dips a little on the right.

But I think it's a good shot.

The buildings and aerials can lead the eye out of the edges of the picture. The mid-ground looks kind of flat, with little actual or perceived distance between the closest and furthest parts, everything feels very "side on" and there are no lead-in lines. The blue and orange complement each other well, but the picture is a bit too uniformly silvery for my taste. I think more localised contrast and sharpness via a larger aperture would have added a little more feeling of texture and depth too. Tony

Hey welcome to the board. Its always cool to see others from WA on this site. I agree with most of the comments above but all in all just make sure your shooting in RAW and take a ton of pictures and post them here for critique. It will only make you better.
