I was enjoying a beautiful day at the park today and saw about 10 different couples with a photographer doing wedding shots. That's fine and all, but they were taking up sidewalks and bridges that I wanted to walk on. At one point I had to wait 10 minutes to cross a bridge before they were done with a shot. At another point I was asked to move from a spot I wanted to be in so I didn't ruin their picture.

You don't own the goddamned park. You have no right to block sidewalks and bridges in a public park with your cliche photography bullsh-t. Selective coloring, oh wow!

I'm venting, but I would rather die than become a wedding photographer.

You should move to London, people wouldnt give a single thought. As I see it, I am not part of the wedding and will most likely never see them again and as a result, do as I wish.

Yes I know others may chime in, that I would not like people to do that to me but I mean, it takes less than a minute for you to get where you need to go, I am sure the couple/photographer can wait till you are out of the way.

Happens a lot during wedding receptions, I dont see what the fuss is about.

Yes. My house has lost 30% of it's value in the last year. Four of my neighbors are out of work right now. My company just announced a plan to lay off 25% of the salaried workforce.

I agree. 10 minutes to cross a bridge.....frickin nuts man. Rage on.

Sorry for venting...but pedestrian concerns seem pretty small these days in Detroit.

Some photographers are more pushy than others. If you are sitting somewhere in a park I'm sure some photographers will find another suitable place instead of asking you to leave. Sure they are on a schedule, but if they have to wait 5min it's not the end of the world. At the parks around my area there is so much room it's really of no concern. It's actually fun to stand and watch!

This is precisely the reason some coastal cities in Southern California have enacted ordinances requiring permits for commercial photography on their beaches and parks.

Unfortunately what has happened is they are now harassing anyone with anything more than a point and shoot camera, no matter what they're taking pictures of. A friend of mine was thrown off a beach in Newport because she was taking pictures of her grandson with her Nikon D70.

It seems to me that for the occasional (?) 10 minutes lost versus the happy memories for the wedded couple it is a decent trade off. I am sure if your were simply going from A to B in a hurry (like going to work) and not just wanting to walk on some bridges and sidewalks, you could have rushed across with a quick explanation. The bride and groom certainly don't wish any imposition on their special day. Rage on? Too sad methinks in today's world.
Cheers - John

Maybe I missed something here but, Do you own the park in question?
I must admit though, some photographers are just as rude as passersby.:p Just kinda balances things out, I guess.

Get over yourself... you don't own the park either.

These couples are in the middle of their special day and you are upset because you can't cross the bridge?

Pathetic.

I agree - cut them some slack. If you were getting married and some guy was getting in the middle of photos and refused to go elsewhere, would you be happy?

I'm not saying you don't have a right to be there, but you definitely don't own the park yourself either.

If you were treated rudely, that is one thing. But someone asking politely if you would move is not the end of the world here. I would ask someone too, and most people wouldn't mind unless I was rude. When asked nicely, most people are happy to accomodate a reasonable request.

What did you want to do - just walk acrossed the bridge and that's it? I'm sure the photog wouldn't have minded you passing by between shots. But were they there before you?

10 minutes is not an eternity.

It WASN'T their special day. These were engagement photos. I guess I should have clarified.

edit: There were also like groups of people in street clothes with them getting their pictures taken. It was a mess.
