this is a funny thread... haters one and all! hahaha... just kidding... how big is the park man?? Besides, people walk in front of photogs and "photogs" all day, every day, some notice and say "oh sorry..." and scurry out of the way, some are completely oblivious, so at worst the photographer has to take a 2nd, or 2000th shot of the couple cause you are in one cause you wanted to cross a bridge.

I think this really comes down to the fact that you were afraid of being "that guy" who walked in front of a photog!! :-) haha

This thread is awesome. I guess since there's so many branches of "talk," moderators can't manage the drama.

On topic, I agree with the OP on this one. If I were the one shooting, I'd wait until the area is free. I'm the unobtrusive type. There are many annoying and obtrusive wedding photogs out there; he must have been one of "them."

What does hating wedding photographers have to do with not wanting to become one? One might hate having access to their favorite bridge denied for a few minutes (), but wanting to be the photographer who documents a couple's special day are two different things altogether.

I hate people who can afford a 5D Mark II, but would I not want to become one of them? Of course I would.

You can't read. AT ALL.

You're the one who keeps ignoring my questions, which leads me to believe you were impolite or didn't even bother to approach and ask politely.

On a related note to the topic at hand - there are some parks here I have shot at before. They can be reserved. So technically, during that period I can request that anyone leave who isn't part of the group, and they have to. You have to pay a fee for this of course. But I won't bother people unless they are in the way and then it's just politely asking. I had another group come in to shoot once when my group had it reserved - not a big deal - I can share. We did have them move out of an area when we needed it though. They didn't have any problems because we did have it reserved. If neither had it reserved I would politely wait until they were done, shoot somewhere else for a bit - maybe mention to the other photog that hey when you are done here we would like to shoot, whatever. I have never had any problems with someone being upset that I was taking pictures in a park. And yes I've been on a bridge!

I was enjoying a beautiful day at the park today and saw about 10 different couples with a photographer doing wedding shots. That's fine and all, but they were taking up sidewalks and bridges that I wanted to walk on. At one point I had to wait 10 minutes to cross a bridge before they were done with a shot. At another point I was asked to move from a spot I wanted to be in so I didn't ruin their picture.

You don't own the goddamned park. You have no right to block sidewalks and bridges in a public park with your cliche photography bullsh-t. Selective coloring, oh wow!

I'm venting, but I would rather die than become a wedding photographer.

don't do it for the photographers... do it for the couples enjoying what should be a wonderful day for them

No doubt that there are photographers that do not work nicely with the public just like there are probably photographers that shoot for themselves may hog space taking shots of a ruin somewhere. I've seen some set up their tripod and stand there for an inordinate amount of time. What do I do, simply move around them or wait it out, 10 minutes out of my life is insignificant and hardly worth the effort to post about it.

When I am working with a wedding party in a public park I am always cognizant of the persons that may want to get by. I will stop shooting to make that happen.

It is a public park, the key word here is public. The wedding party has as much right to use the facility as anyone else. I can't believe I took the time to respond to this......duh to me.

Hate is such a strong word, I really don't even like the word.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

While I'd try to respect what the photographer was doing and I'd understand what the shoot and all means to the couple, if I wanted to cross the bridge, I'd cross the bridge. I can't imagine I'd listen to somebody telling me I couldn't. Why would/did you? Did they have big photography bouncers?

As far as reserving public parks goes, I think that's total BS. We like to go to a local (45min away) lake and there's but one smallish (15 tables) park/picnic area. After buying all of our food and getting together three households to go, we arrive only to find someone has 'rented' not only the gazebo, but the entire park! What kind of crap is that? It was a state park, not a private resort. So we - and trust me, we weren't the only ones - have to leave? There's no rangers or office to call, so the only way we could find out it was rented was to show up. Total crap. IMHO, naturally. Wow...a bit OT...

Now back to your other regularly scheduled rants...

I was being denied enjoyment of a public space because someone was conducting their business in a public park.

If I'm drinking out of a public water fountain, and you want to refill your sports bottle, you're gonna have to wait your turn.

Deal.

And more specifically, I'm not a rude photographer but I have no problem making some random short-fuse wait until I finish what I was paid to do. He's playing in the park. I'm working in the park.

Everyone has the same rights. I didn't keep someone off the bridge for 10 minutes or make someone move out of my way, did I? Doing such things indicates they have more of a right to be there.

Be thankful it wasn't a movie. You wouldn't have been allowed in the park at all.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure at least one party involved in the OP was socially deficient. As if you couldn't just politely ask to cross the bridge between shots or something. I don't think the photographer would have acted as though you were ****ing up his chi by crossing the bridge.
