Some amazing shots there, to be sure. If that's a representative sample, the quality has gone up again.

The quality is certainly high, that is for sure. That is great though, a testament to all those who use this forum, and to others who are learning to be better at all this malarkey...

Surviving, the massive cleanup is progressing. Supposed to be another storm this arvo. We have 2" rain last night. Must be horrible for those with holes in their roofs. The SES (State Emergency Service) comes around and puts a tarp over the hole but I'd worry a lot still if it were my place.

Yeah, I have friends and work colleagues there (we have an office downtown), who emailed me about the storm....pretty nasty stuff.

Greg_C wrote in post #6713177 (external link)
Do you guys have an equivalent of our SES (State Emergency Service)? They are all volunteers and are all trained in disaster recovery, search & rescue etc.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_Emergency_Service (external link)

I believe there are plenty of voluntary units in many states that work in regards to the SES. Then on top of that you'd have things like the Red Cross etc. Further on top of that you have FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), which goes in to organise relief and give out money during natural disasters. When I mean give out money, you do not get money if your television is damaged (your insurance would do that), but say your roof caved in after a heavy storm, or an earthquake - something that would trigger a "state of emergency" FEMA would come in, and you would be eligible to "claim" for additional funds to repair your house.

Here's the set on flickr with the final project photos of my photography class (for beginners, I'm just taking it for the required credit :p). The instructions were "show me what you can do" basically.

mooorning Dan... evening moo from here... :)

rain's a comin again... :|

https://photography-on-the.net …?p=6716724&postcount=4082

not as bad as last time though... but still plenty of liquid in that set... combined with a bit of rumblings :)

Hope it is slowly dying down...I am looking at Brissie/Perth/Sydney as a possible moving point next year. Could be most likely to be Perth/Sydney, but brissie would be nice....esp if that storm is a complete one off and not a regular thing!

Thanks guys!

It really is an amazing shot. I keep coming back to it.

With judicious cropping, that would be a stunning avatar.

Thanks Chief. Shot with a 5D/100-400, stretched across the car and shooting out the passenger window, I was fortunate to get the shot.

Nothing wrong with being lucky Mike...I'd gladly settle for a "lucky" shot like that any day of the week.
