It was. I totally got involved in gear lust...it was a very unfortunate experience. Now we have what we need (except lighting).

My gear fund seems to have evaporated with the arrival of grandchildren.:(

ours evaporated with the economy. Our current income is roughly 1/2 of what it was 4 years ago. Savings are gone (but Hawaii was a nice swan song). In any case, it was fun while it lasted.

The 40D works great and while it doesn't shoot as fast as the M3 and I do miss that, it is nice to have a smaller camera when I want one.

Funny that the 40D is the smaller camera for you Permie. I was just at Circuit City yesterday browsing their clearance sales and out of curiosity picked up the XSi. It felt like a little toy in my hands (and I don't have big hands). It brought me back to the days when I used to have my first XTi and made me glad I switched to the 40D. Even if just for the ergonomics, it was worth it.

The economy didn't help any either.

I'd trade non-essential body organs for some lenses. Maybe a piece of liver or a kidney. If only B&H had an organ trade-in program.

Hey you only need one kidney to live... and sure only need a part of a liver.... Wonder if any one would buy an appendix... or a gall bladder... those aren't very necessary :p hehehehe

I remember that (switching from the xt to the 30D) and loved the feel in my hands (I dont' have big hands either)...it felt so much more solid. For me, size wise the 40D is the perfect size (5D too). The 1 series are big and heavy and since I'm usually hauling 2 cameras it's nice that they both aren't 1 series.

That's where I'm at. I've been reading strobist and trying to improve my lighting technique. My Christmas wishlist is made up almost entirely of lighting gear. Elinchrom Skyports, here I come. I wouldn't dare to ask for Pocket Wizards .

we have the strobist stuff (skyports...which work great at much less cost than the pw's) and some nikon flashes that work great for off camera lighting. But I desperately want some studio style lights.

you should read curtis n's thread on the elinchromes...I learned a lot there. Oh and we bought our nikon flashes on ebay for killer cheap.

I did a new post entitled Last Call...since people sometimes don't bother to read stuff a second time.
