you'll always be my favorite grandpa ;)

and just because you see things realistically doesn't make it wrong.

You are correct...there are loads of people who don't know what they need, don't even know the applications of use and who ask questions in innocent ignorance only to have the gear heads and justifiers tell them they need something they don't. Or maybe they do but most often they don't.

Yea, I wish I had the time to devote to helping those people out.

Someone in one of my classes who I chat with before class is apparently into photography. She has done mostly 35mm stuff, darkroom work at school etc. But she found out I was into photography and began asking me about digital. She seems completely overwhelmed by both her camera (A Nikon D40x) but even more so, the who digital workflow thing.

Unfortunately, I have found it really difficult to find a nice walkthrough of something like LR with a basic workflow from start to finish. Everything seems to be aimed at people who have an understanding of the terminology etc.

I have been working on something for a while, but I need some time (hopefully Thanksgiving break) to finish it up and lay it out with pretty pictures. There is a lack of a simple, start to finish, workflow for beginners in digital photography, hopefully by the end of the month, I will have something nice, readible and understandable by the avg. Joe starting out and perhaps some pointers to make more experienced people think. We will see.

Wow Feng...it's been a long time since I'd heard of such storms in AU. While I know there's been a lot of damage, this rain should help out in the long run, right?

Hi Lisa.

Yeah most definitely. We got plenty of falls over the dams and in the catchments. Most of the greater brisbane/south east queensland area should be benefit from this rainfall. The hinterland (far west brisbane) region on the other hand are still doing it tough.

It has been a while... espsh in Brisbane. Since I've been here, I've been in one bout of storms... and after that (for the last 5 years or so) we've been in drought. We were at critical Dam levels at the middle of last year, and only in the last 6-8 months have we had any sort of decent rainfall.

The storms on Sunday were the destructive part.... the rain yesterday like a minor aftershock... I'm not sure if Greg posted the stats, but apparently over 230,000 lost power on Sunday night. Took them 48+ hours to restore the power to everyone... only for more to lose power last night :| The SES has been working around the clock since Sunday clearing debris, cleaning up etc. Kudos to them... and it's a tough one for them.

Wow, Feng, if only you could catch all the rain and ship it West to some areas of SA where my family are they would be pleased.

heh yeah it's funny how rain falls where it's not REALLY needed sometimes...

i heard the water crisis is quite bad in SA too.. espsh in the north.

been talking to a few blokes in the brissie thread, and it seems that the rain was only from midnight to about 3am... so that's an impressive volume for about 3 hours :)

yeah. i've been procrastinating for about 5 years in creating a simple site. seeing all the work here from people such as yourself is kinda reinspiring me to get my A into G and do something.

hope you have a good shoot at the ballet :)

Like the "what lens should I buy" threads that don't include information about what subjects the poster likes to shoot, what lenses and/or bodies they currently have, what their budget is. . .

You know, the little things. ;)

Great idea Riley. Video/ Youtube type format would be nice.

Well, i wanted to start with something in text with pictures, because there are a bunch of video tutorials, but I find that I prefer to read something and pick out what is important for me, than listen to someone blabber on about random stuff in-between.

That said, I have thought about a video out also, so that might be coming down the pipe. I decided to start the text one tonight, I have almost done with the importing part :).
