I'm tired of Gary Fairhead posting shots of his trained pet Snowy Owl.

Link

Clearly stuffed. You can still see the clone marks where he tried to cover up the fishing line used to hold the owl in position. ;)

Not a fan of that version, TD. Santa's outfit isn't red anymore.

I came in to my office instead of my laptop to look at your shots.

Jen - I think the exposure in the first is better than the second. The second looks a touch over exposed. The wall behind them comes out differently in each shot, and in the second Santa's coloration seems a bit washed out. It's not the ideal color for a background with Santa, but I don't imagine you had much control over that. I'm sure that also would have played havoc with any chance of bouncing the flash.

I'll go back and look at the exposure values on those two.... I totally had no control over the placement... heck there are some pictures where there's other crap in the picture.... I was trying my best to keep kids from walking between me and Santa... but I was between the kids and the toys under the tree  The ceilings in that space are 10 feet and everything is that pea green... But bouncing the flash never seems to work for me... it always looks odd....

What software do you have, I don't remember.

LR, CS3, Elements5

Really?

Color red looks much darker -- If I convert it to ProPhoto RGB, his outfit looks better, but then the rest of the shot looks too red.

Do you have LR2? If so, you can do it in there. I don't know how to do it in Elements (I use Nik Color Efex Pro).

Sandpaper. Nothing coarser than 80 grit, tho'. Otherwise it leaves a mark.
