I took back the broken digital frame tonight - replaced it with a different model from a different store -has worse resolution (640x480) but my photos look good on them, so I guess that is all that matters... I bought it because the screen looked the best from multiple view angles. Some with better res. looked awful under the lighting.

You know what will really help? Get Wool over there for about 30 minutes and practice. It will all make much more sense trying it rather than talking about it.

Boy wouldn't that be great.... BUT finding the time without my children has been near impossible.... :(

The room was dark because the walls were hideous building/apartment white (their living room).

Yes, I added the "bling" at their request (not my taste at all!). Glad you noticed it. They're announcing their engagement to their family with these shots so they wanted people to notice the ring. :)

The walls in my shots are ick pea green.... hehehehehe

I like the bling....

When you've got no talent or ability, you're not going to be able to pull off quite the same technique as TD did.

There's actually another thread here that goes into it with some detail: https://photography-on-the.net …php?p=6893802&postcount=1

You might be able to minimize some of the background, if you've got enough distance between it and your subject, but it would be hard to really underexpose it enough unless you went very low on ISO, with a small aperture, and as quick a shutter speed as your camera will allow.

Edited for accuracy....

Oh and we were in cramped quarters so I couldn't get any space between my subject and the background :(

NOT AT ALL ACCURATE!

Flash is a tough thing to master. I know I'm a long way from getting it. I also figured that you were in cramped quarters, making it much more difficult to try to use the sort of technique he was using. In some situations, though, you will be able to. It doesn't happen the first time you try it, but it will happen with practice. Just like all of photography -- practice matters.

And with that -- I'm out for the night. Take care, all. And for all you Northwesterners, be careful tomorrow should the weather shamans be close to getting this prediction right.

My children are going to be elated.... The fire department I shoot for makes a video or two to be shown at their Christmas party each year. The videos are then put on the department's website. It's cool to watch them and see all my friends. Well now I watch them to see which pictures of MINE were used hehehehe.... Some of my shots from the summer training burn had the boys in it.... this one in particular...

My ability and talent is boiled down to pure luck... I've gotten some lucky shots over the last year!

Night David!

Good night David, I agree flash work is an art form itself.

Nice work there Jennifer.

I spent a bit of time on the back yard this arvo. Macro photography in 20kt wind gusts is not fun. On Manual Focus I could see the the wind blow the spider in and out of focus.

Lay back in the recliner, watch the tube, fall asleep.... makes for a great nap! There's hardly ever anything worth watching anyway.:D:D

Ah, quiet morning hours, before the world wakes up. Stillness of the pre-day. I enjoy the sounds of Nature slowly getting ready for the day.

And the sounds of my dog chewing on my photo vest. Again.

I tend to ramble. Feel free to put me on ignore.
