Synch speed? That is......?? I was underexposing... purely accidental mind you because I had taken this photo earlier in the morning....
Basically, your shutter is two curtains moving over the sensor. The first curtain uncovers the sensor. The second one follows the first by whatever your shutter speed was and covers it up again. Since the duration of your flash is only around 1/1000 sec. or less, it has to fire when the entire sensor is uncovered or you'll get a picture of the size of the shutter gap. So sync speed is the fastest shutter speed where the flash will be "seen" by the whole sensor.
