did I miss something? whatever happened (since you witnessed it) to calling the police?

At this time of day the patrols out here are minimal, I am not in any city jurisdiction and the incident is not critical enough for the nearest city to respond. So it would likely take 15-20 minutes for the nearest county officer to respond to only broken glass.

It was dark from upstairs (since the lights were shot out) so I couldn't see a face.
And from down below when I opened the door I was able to see height and coat and that was it... a quick call to the neighbor and I was able to confirm my suspicion based on the coat coloring.

If I had waited inside only calling the police and not going downstairs then I would not have been able to see the coloring of the coat and the rough direction of egress.

It was a judgment call that had to be made on the fly - from the start, knowing that this kid was using a small spring loaded bb gun, I knew that he was of little harm to me personally and the pumping noise of a shotgun is of no physical harm to him - it is just a warning noise.

Over the next few months I plan on taking a lot of classes at the county public safety shooting center to be able to make better on-the-fly decisions. I hope to take them all, but some of them cost $200+ and will have to wait a wee bit longer.

Was there a defective punkin crop this year? I've heard more complaints about people carving their punkin and having it go bad almost overnight. Used to be able to get well over a week before it even started looking bad...

We had a BUNCH of pumpkins go bad out front of the store this year. Worst attrition I've seen in years.

Interesting day.

I got a call from a friend of mine saying they'd found two old cameras in the basement of the business he manages, and if I wanted them I could have them. I asked him what they were, and he really didn't know. He said they were made by Pentax, and they were BIG!! He said the lens was 4 or 5 inches in diameter. Of course my imagination went a bit wild, and I started imagining medium format cameras like the 645 or the RB67. He brought them over to the house, and they turned out to be old 35mm models, a K-1000, and a newer one. The K1000 is kinda' neat because I actually have a small collection of older Pentax K-mounts and screw mounts, so it will fit in. the Newer one is completely uninteresting. It's a model ZX-M, manual focus, auto-wind 35mm with a 50 mm f/2 lens. The whole thing has a lot of plastic, and weighs hardly anything. The 'big' lens was an 800mm mirror-type cheapo telephoto made by Bausch & Lomb. It's not what you would call great stuff, but it was free, and I'm thrilled to have another clean copy of a K-1000.

Actually, the 800mm lens has an eyepiece and adapter with it, so it can be used as a telescope. The bokeh on that lens looks like little donuts.....looking through it makes me hungry.

The REALLY cool thing is they each came in a Pelican-style hard case which I will be able to use for my Canon gear. Apparently new foam is available for them from online sources.

My closet grows fuller.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

My middle son was crushed to come home and see his pumpkin had basically folded in half while he'd been at school. :~(

We've never had pumpkins go so completely bad so quickly. We even had a couple that we didn't even get carved before they started to soften up. The weather wasn't that odd, and they were sheltered from the rain, but they sure did go bad in a hurry.

That's nice, Chief. I need to look into a better way of storing things that aren't in my go bag right now. What I've been doing so far isn't working very well.

Yea, unfortunately, I don't grant wishes.

I have merely been emancipated from the bonds of homework for a bit.

Over the last week and a half I wrote just shy of 40 pages or about 12500 words. UGH.

How are you all, I have been absent for a while it seems.

Nice score Chief!

I remember the cases Canon supplied with each of their lenses back in the 1970's, and wonder why they cheapened them up so much.
