Interesting day.

I got a call from a friend of mine saying they'd found two old cameras in the basement of the business he manages, and if I wanted them I could have them. I asked him what they were, and he really didn't know. He said they were made by Pentax, and they were BIG!! He said the lens was 4 or 5 inches in diameter. Of course my imagination went a bit wild, and I started imagining medium format cameras like the 645 or the RB67. He brought them over to the house, and they turned out to be old 35mm models, a K-1000, and a newer one. The K1000 is kinda' neat because I actually have a small collection of older Pentax K-mounts and screw mounts, so it will fit in. the Newer one is completely uninteresting. It's a model ZX-M, manual focus, auto-wind 35mm with a 50 mm f/2 lens. The whole thing has a lot of plastic, and weighs hardly anything. The 'big' lens was an 800mm mirror-type cheapo telephoto made by Bausch & Lomb. It's not what you would call great stuff, but it was free, and I'm thrilled to have another clean copy of a K-1000.

Actually, the 800mm lens has an eyepiece and adapter with it, so it can be used as a telescope. The bokeh on that lens looks like little donuts.....looking through it makes me hungry.

The REALLY cool thing is they each came in a Pelican-style hard case which I will be able to use for my Canon gear. Apparently new foam is available for them from online sources.

My closet grows fuller.

Wow, that's pretty cool!

No.... the neighbor kid just shot out our driveway lights...

I ran down the stairs opened the door and pumped the shotgun (no way I was going to shoot... I am crazy but not stupid) --- but I know if I was shooting someones lights with a BB gun and I heard a shotgun pump at me... I would sooooooo carp my pants!

He and his mother will come over tomorrow.....

But I got some waterdrops on the barrel of the gun, so it needs some love and care :-D

That's gotta be one stupid kid if he comes back again.

BTW....

I've learned something valuable in the current real estate market....

It's really hard to say 'stiff upper lip' while actually having one.

It comes out sounding like, "Sniff ubber yip."

:lol::lol::lol:

It's awesome..... evaluating my finances..... low light and indoors is no problem with the 5d for my purposes. Here's a tight crop of Scooter..... you'd have to love this dog to think he's cute..... but we do.

Me too! With Procter & Gamble (you may have heard of them). Good luck with yours.

Too much homework to go to bed though.

Good luck with your interview/homework!

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Good luck with your respective interviews guys!

Now...something for the hardcore railfan. I'm sure the Chief will recognize what this is.

Oh I know of the name of that... from a steam train... I want to say coal box but I think that is wrong..

Sad thing is... these same lights got shot out last year... we always suspected him but had no evidence since nobody was home... Now we are very sure that it was him. His mother is less than thrilled with him...

Not necessarily from a steam train....but it certainly was found on virtually all of them since the middle of the 1800s until the 1970s. This particular item was found on only one car of the train.

I'm waiting for David....I think we should set out on a crusade in the 50D threads!:lol::lol:

Sorry -- I read a couple more really dumb ones today (yeah - it's kind of like rubbernecking a car wreck, I know) and had to walk away before I said something less than neighborly. ;)

I actually had to spend too much time tonight finishing off the fraud AMEX stuff. In issuing my replacement account number they split off some of my transactions to the old number, some to the new number, and some they put on both numbers. For some unknown reason, they also decided to leave the fraudulent charges attached to the old number (and appearing on my bill) with all the credits appearing on the new number (and because of timing, not yet appearing on my most recent bill). Trying to reconcile things correctly, getting them to balance correctly, and making sure that the proper payment was made (the whole mess had to take place just at the closing time of the statement, of course) ended up much more difficult than it needed to be.

Off to bed now. I've been invited to be a parent representative of my sons' elementary school at a brunch with the district superintendent and the school board in the morning. Should be interesting.

Yes....I was particularly impressed with the advice to not use the micro-adjust feature, because the camera and lenses should be perfect when they come out. I so wanted to say "I took a Ferrari for a test drive this weekend...dang thing ran like crap. I discovered that a couple of the sparkplug wires were off, but I decided that I wouldn't put them back on because the car was perfect off the assembly line. Those stupid Ferraris are nothing but junk!"
