:) I seem to get one or two decent shots out of every shoot now... ha! What do you guys think?

Kind of plain, but I like how the gull is looking off in to the distance.

Is the focus of the shot the bird or the lights? KNowing by the title and description I know it is the bird, therefore I would crop it to accent the bird more than the "perch".
Also try some unsharpmask to try and bring it into better focus. And you might try some vignette settings to bring the bird out of the background.
