My wife and I went out to Fish Springs NWR today. While driving along one of the dikes, the smell was just horrible. We thought something had died. Ahead, on one of the bridges, sat a group of ravens. They would take turns flying down into the stream under and nearby the bridge. "Let's stop and see if something is dead in there." Just as she started to open the door, a coyote jumped up out of the water not 10 feet from her. She screamed "it's alive!" and tossed my camera at me. I jumped out and managed to get these shots.

I hope you enjoy them even half as much as we enjoyed the experience.

The shake to remove some water.

Under the bridge there were hundreds of these black beetle-looking bugs. I think the birds and the coyote were eating them.

OMG, Are you lucky or what? Great series capture. I'll bet you wish the spray had shown up more on the shake shot, but you would have missed detail in the next two.

Were you in continuous shoot, or snapping individual shots?

No offense, but I think these have been over-sharpened. Great captures though.

MetalTom.
Very, very nice shots!!
The last one, it's just magic!!!
In my conception, and as unconditional enthusiast of nature photographies that I am, one of the best scenes than I could already notice here, up to now.
It's genuine nature picture. Congratulations!

+1 for being just a tad crisp but really nice work.

The last two are NatGeo worthy or at least bw!

Ya I agree. Just a bit too much sharpening, but absolutely incredible shots, especially the last one!

No offense taken. I appreciate an honest evaluation. I've seen a lot of your work and respect your opinion.

Again, thanks for the honest evaluation, and thanks for the praise.

Thanks to all who commented.

When processing images for web display I use the manyk srs action (external link) for resizing and sharpening. This is probably the first series of images I've posted that could do with the default (or less) from this action. Normally, I can up the final layer's slider to near 90% with good results. I reworked the last image and left it at the default for the action. Let me know if this is an improvement or still needing some work.

Reworked (LESS sharpening)
