I am looking for views on what folks use to back-up and restore their photography pics.

I used Acronis to back-up but that was a disaster, its been 3 weeks now and i still can't get Acronis to identify an issue (Vis C++ runtime errors etc)

Would appreciate what you folks use?

Thanks

Just a simple batch file (backup.bat) which I use MS-Scheduler to run nightly....

backup.bat basically contains ONE xcopy command with the flags to copy ALL new/modified files in a directory structure to another external backup drive. Free, and works for me!

As for "Restore", there's nothing really to restore, the second drive is essentially a mirror of the primary data drive.

The beauty of SyncToy is its simplicity. You'll love it.

Wow SyncToy is exactly what I was looking for...............at work. This will be very very useful for me, I was going stir crazy trying to sync my laptop and workstation with our file server where only certain things need to be backed up from each encrypted machine.

Thank you very much.

I wonder how long I have to hang out on POTN before I get as good as Ansel Adams ?

If you're running Linux as an ops, I'd recommend Partimage. I use it weekly to run a partition backup image of my 50G Photography partition.

Karen's Replicator is another good choice for simple and easy backup. http://www.karenware.com/powertools/powertools.asp (external link)

I too am looking for a full system backup and although Acronis has been highly recommended in the past, it appears that that current version has a lot of problems.

I use synctoy to a nas (NSLU2 with 2 WD my books) and acronis to backup the system itself. I actually use acronis to backup every system in my house. The only issue I have right now is that I can't get the huge files onto the NSLU2 due to ext3 file size limitations.

My next move is to rebuild one of my older systems to the MS Home Server product. From what I've seen, that may be the perfect situation. It allows for backups of the data (with a pseudo raid provision) and the OS's. I'm sure, given that it's a MS product, that there will be challenges, but I've seen quite a few positive reviews.
