hey guys/gals, well my rebel xsi was just escorted to my door by a big brown truck and i couldnt be happier. Cracked open the box and looked at all my goodies. Im just starting out came from a bunch of crappy point n shoots, last being a little pink fuji finepix. I picked up a xsi w/kit lense and nifty fifty and have already shot about 50 pics. man i have alot of learning to do but i love this dang thing......i look forward to learning tons of information from all you and sharing tons of pics. picked it up mainly because the wife and I have a little bun in the oven....
thanks
ryan :p

Welcome to POTN. It's a great place with lots of helpful people. I'm pretty new to photography myself and POTN has helped a lot.

Congratulations on the baby. :D

And as everyone else will say, read as much as you can esp. the manual. haha.

congrats and welcome! enjoy the camera and just take a crapload of pics. Try to ignore the L-gearheads here and make the most of what you have at the moment before upgrading your equipment. As you develop a shooting style over the next while you can better select and choose a set of lenses that will help you with your style.

Congratulations on the new baby. There is nothing like the love and joy a new baby will bring you. Oh, and the newborn infant should give you great opportunities to practice with your new baby too. ;)

A word of advice. READ THE MANUAL. Shoot some more pictures. Experiment with settings. Shoot some more. READ THE MANUAL AGAIN. Experiment some more. READ THE MANUAL AGAIN. Shoot some more, and more yet. Experiment. Read it again when time permits. Rotsa ruck with the newborn. Enjoy while young, before it gets smarter than you are, and borrows your camera when you arent looking.

Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife and a computer, I don't need any more confusion in my life.

I wanted to be a nude photographer, but when I went outside naked, everyone pointed and laughed, so I gave it up.

+1. good advice that. Welcome to POTN, there is so much that can be learnt here it's unreal and for the most the members are very friendly & helpful.

The other thing to remember is that if your images aren't to the standard of other posters on here you can almost be sure that it's you not your gear so don't rush into a 1DmkIII & lot's of L glass. It won't suddenly make you take better pictures....lol

Remember to post your first duck picture and more important than anything else have fun......:D

My advice...... go to Barnes and Noble and get another guide to your specific camera because the manual that comes with it doesn't go into enough detail....IMHO.

Your images may look worse than images from your point and shoot at first. Don't be discouraged by this. You will have to learn a little about unsharp mask, contrast, saturation, and a few other things to make your images shine.
