Not a great shot, but I was without my zoom. We have one the only summer ski jumps in the US nearby. This was some big annual championship.

Pretty cool to see ski jumping while you're wearing shorts!

I'm not sure where this is....but Lake Placid also has an outdoor ski jump...at least a couple years ago. We went to a jump on July 5th!!

Wrong position :) You see that guy taking photos on bottom right of your photo? Now go about 20meters higher and that's right position for ski jumping. For that you can get something interesting (external link) even with 14mm fish ;) Otherwise standard ski jumping shots are from same position with 200m or 300mm lens (external link).

Great tip primoz! It was more of a family event - didn't get a chance to get on the slope, underneath the action.

This one is in Fox River Grove, IL - about an hour NW of Chicago. I think Lake Placid is the one other place in the US that has an outdoor slope.

Park City also. Both it and the jump at Lake Placid are remnants of former Olympic venues.

Is there one at Squaw Valley as well? I haven't been there yet...

I had no idea that there was a jump in Illinois, this is *AWESOME* !! I'm only a few hours away from there and would certainly travel to watch it. Their webpage shows that there is only one tournament there all winter (Jan 25th) ??? :( That's terrible! I emailed the contact hoping for more info.
