Anybody without a card-reader able to get the firmware onto their card via USB?

My computer says it can't accept files of that extension in the root file.

Follow the instructions to update using the EOS Utility program.

I got mine updated via the USB connection. Folowed the instructions in the readme file and used the EOS utility program that came with the camera.

A little confusing because the EOS utility said it lost connection with the camera partway through, but I think that is necessary in the firmware update process. After it sends the firmware update from the computer to the CF card, I think it cuts communication to the camera from the computer and the rest is carried out from the CF card.

Make sure you look at the lcd display on the camera and not just at the computer screen.

I'm having troubles connecting my 50D to the Utility Program, and some have had similar problems in the past with no solutions. Vista reads the camera (auto-play pops up every time) but Utility does not.

So I guess now all the people saying that there was no problem and the percentage of users with problems was less than 10% have been proven wrong.

I upgraded just for the heck of it. Haven't had any problems, but I like to have the latest firmware just to prevent any potential issues before they crop up.

Where I work, one of our programmers once commented upon a bug report by saying "I don't see that as a problem".

He's still around.

I as well work for a software company. Our developers love to say "It Works As Designed." So I asked if it was designed wrong...didn't go over too well. :D

Upgraded last night with no issues. Very smooth and easy though it did take a bit longer than previous firmware upgrades probably due to the size. Did a bit of testing, ran through all my lenses and all seems well. Gonna have a weekend full of shooting opportunities this weekend so it will get a good workout.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Corrects a rare phenomenon in which "busy" blinks on the camera's display panel and the shutter cannot be released due to the timing of battery installation.

It obviously means pressing the shutter AFTER the battery is installed. If you press the shutter without a battery installed, the camera won't function - and this is not a fault, it is designed to work that way (lol).

I guess the problem with the battery timing is one needs to leave the battery in the camera for a few seconds or minutes, to setle, get acquainted, before pressing the shutter. Sounds like a battery power meter subroutine bug (err... design choice)...

Have you seen this thread on banding issues?

Isn't this a thread on taking shots under flourescent lighting?
