ebay Nicna-store YongNuo OC-E3 off shoe cord damaged my 30D

I got an after-market off camera shoe cord for its 10 feet length for my Canon 30D. But the to-camera adapter of the ebay YongNuo Nicna-store cord has a big defect,which seriously scratches my 30D hot shoe. One of the small screw sticks out of the cord adapter metal plane and grinds the 30D hot shoe and rips off the paint and the metal surface of 30D shoe. I could not get any help from the ebay seller nicna-store, who said his cord was not an defect and did not return my email any more. I was sucked totally.

Does anybody know how to protect the damaged shot shoe from eroding?
If you know where I can get a long OC-E3 cord other than ebay, that is also greatly helpful.

A replacement shoe is generally available from Canon for a small fee and installing it... well there's a guide around here somewhere and it doesn't look hard.

See if you can screw that screw in more.. Get a replacement shoe, it's very easy to chang those!

I hear you can get the newer 40D or 50D unpainted metal shoe plate and put it in place of the black one on the 20D and 30D.

But, someone would have to verify that for me.

That you woudn't have to worry about paint flaking off...

I'd someone to verify this too. Would love to see my 400D with a new stainless steel hotshoe plate.

400D I don't know.

You could take the screw out of the foot of the OC-E3, then file it down until it is smooth, and then replace the screw, or put a small washer under the screw once you open the assembly and remove the screw.

The hot shoe metal plate on the camera comes off with just 4 little screws, and this item can be polished down to remove all the scratches.

I have got one the Yongnuo OC-E3 off-camera cord and it hasn't got the same problem.

From looking at your photographs it's quite clear that the offending item is a manufacturing fault as it is too long. I didn't realize that these are the ends of small screws that are fitted from the reverse side of the plate. I thought they were tiny rivets, peened from the side shown.

If the seller isn't going to be any help I would do as Michael said and take it apart, file the screw down shorter to match the others and refit it.

The hot shoe on that camera I would just touch in with a black marker or some black paint, but I wouldn't worry about the scratch unless you don't like its appearance.

I swapped 30D hot shoe with 300D... So 20D and 40D would work!

clear nail polish worked on my older camera with brassing on the body
