I fit most of my kit in a backpack, where it remains when not in use. The only time a lens is separated from the camera or pack is if I'm cleaning or selling it. For those using lens cases, in what situations do you require them?

There's only room for my 20D, 580EX and one lens. I'll throw another lens in the top section where my non-photo gear is, in which case I'll put it in a lens case. That's about the only time I use them, but when I do it's nice to have that peace of mind. "That which does not kill me better run really, really fast!"
