There was an article I read on here in February or so talking about the game between Green Bay and the New York Giants during the playoffs last year. It was ridiculously cold, we're talking Wisconsin in January here, and they were still shooting. Interestingly, the new Nikons that had just been released were freezing up horribly and had to be swapped out while the pro's with the 1D MkIII's kept on clicking. That was the kicker for me to go Canon. I can't remember where the article was though.

I remember that article as well. There seemed to be an issue with some D3s which caused them to freak out in the cold. My friend's D3 would fail to access memory cards in the cold and it progressively got worse. It was replaced and the new one has been fine. It was not a commonly reported issue so I don't know how widespread it was.

Just keep your gear in your bag, take it out to shoot, then return it to the bag. Leave your bag closed upon going indoors for at least a half hour.

Pretty much all I do in our near, at or below freezing conditions. I just leave things in the bag when I get back long enough that they hopefully come up to temperature without condensation.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over this issue whatsoever. I shoot Snowcross all winter and don't do anything special. Save for putting the camera back in my camera bag at the end of the day, and waiting a couple of hours to take it out.

And I have shot on days of 40 below without a problem.......save for trying to order food in a restuarant in Sherbrooke Quebec.

cold is falling through the ice to your waist while holding your brand new 40d in the air and trying to get to a fallen tree to climb out w/o dropping the camera in the water-----in minus 2 degree weather:o:o:o

had to hike back a mile and hypothermia set in big time.....i almost didnt make it,,,but the 40d had no problems. i shot in cold cold weather all winter. usually i kept the camera inside my warm truck and got out to take shots or i kept it in my camera bag and pulled it out for shots and returned ot back to the bag.....seems to work for me--- HIKING IN THE SNOW IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY

Would you believe it was at a Subway?

I don't speak French and they didn't understand my Anglish.

But seriously, I never worry about taking my gear out into the cold. I am just cautious on how I re introduce it to warmer temps is all.
