Does anyone know if there would be an issue using this older lens with my new 50D? I have heard there are some AF issues using older lenses with newer bodies.

Also, is this lens discontinued? It is still listed on their website.

I got a line on a newer (used) one and am thinking of buying it.

It is a unique lens in that Canon doesn't offer anything like it. Optically it's pretty good, though you have to check for accurate AF with it. But with your 50D, it should be no problem with AF micro-adjustment. A bit clunky in use with the dual focus clutch AF/MF, but a good optic and solid build. The close focusing is a real boon too.

Thanks Lightrules.

The close focus and wider FOV are the reasons I am going to get it. the Sigma 30 never seems to get close enough, but I still love it. Glad to hear it is good optically also.

The lens is not discontinued. The Sigma 20/24/28mm f1.8 lenses are a class of sleeper lenses b/c they are not well known but they are very unique in their optics/speed/close focusing distance/price.

I've had the 28mm and have the 20mm. If you can live with the AF mechanism and noise, it rewards you with a unique wide yet close focusing field of view and pretty darn good optics too.

I don't think you will have any problems with the 20mm on the 50D.

i love the 20 1.8, sold and rebought three times. Learned i cant live without it.

Mine is sharp, focus's great. Just wish it focused a weebit faster, and didnt sound so weird. FTM focus wouldnt be bad either. :)

But then it would cost more and probably be bigger too.
:p

Agree with twoshadows, this lens lets you get creative compositions.

Do you really need 1.8? Myself, I'd get the Tokina 11-16/2.8 instead of the 20/1.8 but that is a slightly different length.

Yeah I am always shooting in lowlight and just sold my slow Sigma 10-20mm because I just was not using it enough. I have looked into the tokina and will probably get one to replace the Sigma 10-20 I just sold, but I can get this lens for a real good deal.

When I say "Sigma", you say "Decentering"...

LOL, Angry Corgi.

Seriously though, it's not that it's a Sigma lens. It's that this lens has super thin dof at mfd and f/1.8 -like, macro thin - and it seems that it's easier for an element to be decentered.

Everything I say may, of course, be wrong.
