I found out about HDR almost immediately after buying my first digital SLR a couple years ago. But then, Photomatix just wasn't what it is today. I tried a bunch of times, but my results never came out anywhere near what I was seeing on the Flickr HDR Pool and I gave up. After that, I tried landscapes for awhile and it was all ho-hum sunsets or sunrises, or views of the hills around here that gets so old so fast. I can't even look in the Landscapes forum much anymore, being so burned out on sunsets over water. :)

Then I found the birdies and found I could get some pretty respectable shots, especially at the park feeder I go to, where they will land on you if you have food in your hand. I have spent two years now setting up my yard to attract birds and have shot 42 species of birds, right here in my own yard. And seen even more, but I only count the ones I have pics of. And then there are the Eagles I can shoot from right downtown when the river is frozen over and they are forced to fish from the only open spot for miles around. A captive audience so to speak.

But now, while not burned out on birds, I want to point the camera at other things, and now I have finally figured out Photomatix, and this brand new version released a few days ago really puts out some excellent renders. I find myself going over in my mind what to shoot tomorrow, or today when I am done with work, what will look good as an HDR, what not to bother with. :)

I shoot macro (mostly flowers, not bugs so much) and landscapes. Still do. HDR hasn't replaced anything. I have just incorporated in into my current photography, now I shoot three exposures instead of one.

HDR Is great for landscapes where the light isn't that flattering...

I feel like I was shooting the same subjects before and after HDR.
Before PM I was using different tricks to get the shot, for example,
indoor shots with a window in the scene I'd take two exposures
and mask in the well exposed window over the blown out window.
For me the main before and after hdr issue is remembering the beauty of the shots before hdr
that used a significant portion of black shadow or white glare.
But to answer your question directly, HDR has definitely opened up interior architectural photography for me.

Probably most of my shooting without HDR has been landscapes and cityscapes, followed not far behind by candids of people and portraits and then skiing (which is about to increase).

My recent discovery of HDR isn't going to change that. It has just added to my tools for landscapes and cityscapes. I will now be more likely to see a shot and see HDR potential, bracket the shot, then when I get it back to the computer I'll decide if HDR is giving me anything extra, otherwise I will just go back to the correctly exposed shot if I like it better.

I like flowers . then little critters .
I started looking into HDR , Focus stacking , Raw and sharping because I was not happy with the DOF on macro's .
I want the leaves in the picture with the flower to be in focus .
I just ordered a pano - 3 - 8 inch by 36 inch on a 24 X36 print . If nice I'll cut it up into 8 inch strips .
