My wife is carrying out wildlife research for her PhD using 'camera traps' (http://www.pixcontroller.com …alEye/DigitalEye-main.htm (external link)).

There are two types of camera casings: one with an "IR Filter" and one...without. However she needs to evaluate the flash output respectively then document those readings into 'techno speak'...in other words, Watt Seconds - Joules - Foot Candles - Lumins ... whatever.

Question Time:
1. If using a light meter, how do you convert the readings to scientific jargon?
2. Would my camera's meter be a suitable substitute for a lightmeter?
3. Should my wife study something else!? :)

Any suggestions and whiplashings greatly appreciated!

Regards

I'd just make a bunch of crap up. Does it really matter how many candles used for a photo? My answer would be "enough to get the shot!". Either that or 1/16th power. ;)

Sorry, had to be facetious. I wish your wife well in her search. Papa Carlo seems to have suggest a very technical book with many answers.
