Shells

Hey folks,

Go ahead. I'm getting back into photography with a passion I've never experienced before so I'd like a some hints on how I'm progressing, what I'm doing wrong and so forth.

Here's the first one:

Interesting shot. However, the range of black and white is too great for most digital cameras. Consequently, you've lost detail in the shell. This would be a good candidate for a High Dynamic Range application.

The depth of field is shallow. Try stopping down the lens, which, of course, would cause a slower shutter speed, which would make a tripod necessary.

I also recommend experimenting with the composition so that it's not so centered.

Thanks Joe. I've just started reading about HDR last night so will try some shots with that in mind on a road trip today.

You're right about aperture. I was at f3.5 on these shots. Funny, I set up my custom setting 2 on the G9 to incorporate aperture priority but I must be more mindful of setting it in my shots.
