According to Wikipedia:

The Green Cheese Model of lunar composition was proposed by A. Nonymous in 1978. The core tenet of this model is that the lithosphere of the moon is composed of cheese. A. Nonymous maintained that this model provided a better explanation of the existence of lunar mice than the silicate rock model used by mainstream science.

Core tenets

The claims central to the Green Cheese Model are the following:

* The moon's lithosphere is composed of a substance similar or identical to cheese in composition and chemical structure.
* The outermost layers of this shell of cheese host a number of mold species, resulting in the moon's observed surface color.
* Animals termed "lunar mice" exist on the surface of the moon, deriving nourishment from the cheese lithosphere.
* Observations of the composition of the lunar surface and of its animal life were suppressed as a result of a deliberate conspiracy by the governments of the United States and the Soviet Union.

The Green Cheese Model was aggressively supported by A. Nonymous until his death in 1998.

B. Nonymous and C. Nonymous are currently the primary proponents of the Green Cheese Model. B. Nonymous publicly claims that the model is irrefutable fact based on his claim to have caught a lunar mouse which is alleged to have escaped from a government facility

Food for thought - are you asking why the moon is green or are you asking why do our eyes tell us that the moon is green... I ask you how do you know it is green and how do I know that what you see as green is the same as my green?

That doesn't answer the question.

If you are asking about the real moon, there are many technical explanations including the often discounted green cheese theory. If you are asking about the moon in the image, I can't answer the question of why the moon looks green on your monitor. On my monitor, it does not look green. It appears essentially neutral or maybe slightly yellowish. Resorting to pixel peeping, I can confirm that the RGB values are very close to neutral or very slightly yellowish (meaning that the blue value is sometimes a few points less than the red and green which are close to the same value).

Whatever the topic is, I think that we are all over it. At the last time that I checked, the topic was green cheese and now we need to determine a good "whine" to go with the cheese.

I sort of like the whine flavors found in the "Canon Conspiracy Theory Series" although the offerings from "Internet Rumor Mongering" has given them a run for their money.

Another case of mistakes running rampant in wikipedia. I know for a fact that atleast in 1943 the moon was assumed to be composed of green cheese. I have at least two cartoons copywrited in 1943 that describe the moon as being composed of green cheese. In one a mouse lead an expedition to the moon in search of food.

Maybe in 1978, A. Nonymous expanded on that theory but he by no means was the first to put it forth!

Thanks, MJ. It sounds like maybe I am progressing although I feel like I am going backwards more than forwards much of the time. Currently, I have become seriously interested in bird photography, but have a very long way to go before I can compare to the incredible group over in the Bird Forum.
