Motorcycle Gurus..

.. I have shamefully missed a photo opportunity. I appeal to your knowledge to tell me it was nothing. that I did not miss much.

Normal day, gladly driving back from running some errands, when I stop on a streetlight, and along side of me is some tiny moto man, riding what looked like some custom race bike. Thank goodness the light was long, so I was able to look at the details. The more I saw, the way the back wheel was built, it seemed very particular.

I then looked around the red colored plastic shell, and saw DUCATI 749r. I started looking frantically for a camera, but I had none in my posession. At least I lowered the window a bit, and after a loud "YO!!", I was able to thumbs up the bike rider, who then went from 0 to 100 in 0.5 seconds as soon as the light went green.

Are these common in the streets nowadays?... A cloudy day in Stockton CA, with some dude and a backpack going from point A to B on a Ducati.

I fear I may have missed a great bike photo.

What say ye?

Well Clint, everyone has done that & life goes on. But for a "PhotoJourno", how could you go somewhere without a camera of some sort? Even phones have them built in now?

Oh.. the shame. It will be upon me and my family for generations !!

I left most of my electronics in South America, while visiting family. Vultures !!!

Gonna pick up something compact just for these occasions, to at least have a chance. Was thinking of stretching as far as a G9, but does not seem nearly worth it for the money. Not sure.

Did some research on the 749r, it seems like a special bike and yet not so incredibly rare, at least the impression I got from the websites I was able to visit. (european though, so here in the states it could be a different story).

Definitely a big machine to have out to drive through city streets, methought.

Cheers, and I vow to catch this guy and his Ducati again.

I had not seen this, I am very bike iliterate.
It just sure looked like it was out of its place, you know, kinda like when you see the Testarossa in the parking lot of the local Savemart.

I don't feel so bad now, I will chuck my guilt to the fact it was not that rare of a bike. Phew, I was starting to order L lenses to quench the pain .

Not sure of that particular model, but Duc's are very common around Austin TX and often seen on hill country back roads around TX. Lyle Lovett is a well know Ducati owner rider. We even have our Ducati dealership and a performance tune shop that specializes in the make.

Ouch !!... so true, when the older folk say "I've taken a million photos, but the ten I will never forget are the ones I missed".

Oh well.

Interesting to read from previous posts that Ducati seems to be populating the streets here in the USA. For some reason, I had it as some sort of rare brand, one that at least specialized in the racing breed of motorcycles. Specially after looking at the website about the 749r, I think if I ever was riding in one and got pulled over by the CHP, they should let me laugh when I explain exactly why I was caught doing 160 mph on the freeway.

Once more, very specific motorcycle it seemed. At least for commuting, a bit of a waste. Other crotch rockets (Katana, etc) never did give me that impression, but for some reason this one time it looked like Jeff gordon going to the local Movie theater on his 24 car.

Anyhow, wherever these rare car and bike guys are, you better all beware, as I am camera-ed up, and looking for revenge !!..

(and to my own defense, at least it was a Ducati, and not a Siambretta, both italian brands, one slightly higher than the other).

as an ex Ducati owner i can heartily recommend them as an excellent and fun way to lose money.
i had a 600 ss, a 900 monster and a 748

there is something about the way they work, look and sound.

always buy second hand, they tend to be much loved, low mileage sunshine toys.
but that won't stop them falling apart for no reason.
it actually the electrics that are rubbish or certainly were in my day.

but that said i'd buy another one tomorrow
