Hi guys, I'm buying my first tripod.

I have read that great sticky, and read many a guide about tripods....but I'm still undecided.

So, I want to take recommendations from you guys, if you don't mind.

Budget isn't really a problem, but I want to spend suitably, something that meets my needs, is safe and secure, but not over the top.

Needs to support my 5d +500mm.

At the moment I'm looking at the Gitzo G3530LS, but I just want to know if you think this is a good choice, or if I can get something just as good for less money. The lighter the better, as I'll be travelling quite a bit with it.

Also I know nothing about ballheads really....could you recommend me one?

Thanks

Sean
C&C welcome.

Well if your going to be traveling a lot maybe the 3541LS would be better suited being about 5 inches shorter(within carry on limits over here). As for the head I'd rather throw a 500 on a gimbal for the ease of control, but I don't have either so....

Gtizo 3 series, say the 3531, and a Markins M20 w/ RRS lever clamp is what would do.
