I'm having a problem with my 5 day old 50D. It is when I set it on TV and select a shutter speed, the speed changes when I move from light to dark the speed changes not the aperture. I also have a 40D which works fine. Question please have I misses anything in the instruction book or is it a problem???

Many cameras have a function (menu) called Safety Shift. Not sure where in the manual it is cause....cause I aint got one! But have a look at it and you'll see what I'm talkin about.

Basically, when Safety Shift is enabled - and you're shooting in TV, the camera will give the maximum shutter speed UNTIL the light falls beyond its capabilities. I'm hopeless at explaining things so have a read up! :)

Then again, I could've misinterpreted the whole question!!!

I really don't want to insult your intelligence but this just occurred to me. Are you sure it's the shutter speed that's changing and not the ISO rating. If the ISO is set to Auto that could be the figure you're seeing that is changing.

I think the difference between the 40D and 50D is that the ISO rating is shown in the view finder on the 50D. I don't think it was displayed in the VF on the 40D (although I could be wrong).

Perhaps you're seeing the ISO reading and assuming it's the shutter speed??

Hope that helps and apologies if I'm treating you like a muppet ;)

Ryan

Ryan no apology needed. I had read the book referring to shutter-priority quite a few times, but there is no reference to "Safety shift" at all. Hence my posting, have to say I knew it wouldn't be long before the reason why was given.
Thanks for responding "Have a Nice Day"

Edit.
Ryan. I've just had a look at your web site.
'Good Luck" I hope your venture in to Professional Photography goes well.
