I sold the Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS, five days after I bought it. It handle flare like ****. Have a look;

I can show you more pictures if you want, the one above is worst.

I went in to the local camera shop and spoke with the guys about the flare problem. He told me they have used Canon 16-35mm II 2.8 for sale. The condition is A+ and it comes with a B+W UV filter and hood. The price is 10000 Swedish kronor ($1265). A brand new cost $1650 without filter.

Should I buy it or should I spend my money on another lens/lenses? I will use it mainly for concerts. I have a Canon 40D.

I need to decide before 6pm tomorrow.

Yeh, the 17-55 is a bit of a pig at handling flare, other than that its superb...

I'm not sure if the 16-35 would be much better...but $400 off the new II version sounds pretty damn good so long as you can check it over really good and test it out on your camera fully..

If it were me, and I had the money, I'd spring for it only because I'm heavily thinking a good move to FF....

It's a shop in my hometown in Värmland.

it looks very sharp.

just wondering, did you use a filter on it? that could have been the problem.

It might have contributed, but the 17-55 is a notoriously bad lens when it comes to flare control

You probably don't wanna hear this but i think that flare actually looks really good. Adds a bit to the photo. Would love to see some results from the 16-35 though.

The filter probably had something to do with it but......

Those flares look like they would be pretty easy to clone/heal out. Any lens is going to flare a little bit with a bright light like that, these don't look so bad apart from the big green one, but that is the easiest one to fix.
