Have you ever used any of the three plugins from Topaz? I just downloaded the Adjust plugin and I really like some of the stuff, but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost. Seems to add a whole lot of noise. Anyone have experience with this manufacturer? Your thoughts?

Tools like Adjust do not add noise. What they can do is make noise obvious that was not noticeable or barely noticeable prior to adjustment.

IOW, the noise was already there in your photograph.

Typically this happens when photos are under-exposed or lacking in saturation and then the photographer boosts the exposure/contrast/saturation significantly.

Sharpening can also take noise from barely visible to obvious, especially aggressive sharpening settings.

I have review copies of both Topaz Adjust and Topaz Vivacity. I believe you need to get more familiar with Topaz Adjust. I have not found it more likely than similar plug-ins to raise the visibility of noise. Some of the presets can be aggressive, but it's your choice to use them. In fact, I recommend manual settings rather than presets.

Cheers,

Mitch

norcalAL, You live in the same town as my family does.

i dont have a lot of experience with the maker o the plug ins.. but i hav seen them, and see the noise you are talking about. you can use NR in your editing program.. it can all be tweaked to your liking.

but i have paid an ubsurd amount of money for some presets for lightroom and photoshop and glad i did.. because you can always make it the way you want it.

Topaz adjust has a noise level adjustment on the last tab- It works really well. After you make other adjustments it does add a lot of noise. The last thing you do is use the noise tab. I'm happy with this plugin

I love Topaz adjust. You can deal with the noise right there in the plugin or afterwards with your noise reduction software. But the POP it gives to images... wow.

I'm glad to see all the positive responses to the Topaz stuff. I'm going to pay for it today. I really like some of the things it can do.
